brrrrrr!
that looks so much harsher - rather like Siberia on a warmish day.
I really must get a visit up there sometime.

Its a place Im rapidly becoming quite attatched to, as its remote enough to unwind and relax at, but still well connected enough to civilisation that you dont feel totally isolated and lost. Theres even a pub by the station! As long as you have some nice warm clothing and a bit of food (and a hip flask ;) ) its very nice there. And as a transport buff its a good spot, trains to photograph, and the RAF practise-attack on the viaduct so you get Eurofighters screaming up the valley at about 100 foot off the deck!

woo...the simulated attacks sound interesting!
and a pub at the station sounds very civilised and something from another time.
although- i remember many years ago (80's ish) there were several stations on the London Underground that had bars on the platforms! I remember having a few drinks of disgusting beer in the one in a proper sit down bar at Victoria west-bound Circle and District platform....and also something of a 'hole in the wall' affair at somewhere around Angel or Farringdon or similar
=very civilised! I'll have a pink gin please ;)

You dont seem to get pubs on railway stations any more- just cans of horrible lager in a fridge in the station cafe (I used to work in the caf at Carlisle Citadel, and it was the old station bar, complete with leather armchairs and huge fireplaces at either end of the wood-panneled room- trouble is to save money theyd ripped out the bar and we just served tinnies of stella...)

its a very sad world. tinnies.... we are not Australians!
I can almost picture the station bar- like something from Brief Encounter or that era movie!

i found a reference to those underground pubs...

....and Jon said: "then they went on to mention the concept of pubs on the Tube. Apparently there used to be a bar on the platform of Sloane Square station. You could jump from train to pub without touching the platform." Jon thinks their re-introduction would be a good idea as he was trying to get to a pub during the recent attacks - "I was frustrated in my attempts to head pubward by the terrorists. If TfL were to reopen the pubs on platforms, then I could have supped in peace."

XD my kind of serious drinker!
